Bommer Spring Pivot Adjustment: How to Reactivate Spring Tension

Step 1 — Remove the tension pin

Remove the pin from the tension collar.

Step 2 — Remove the pivot

Remove the pivot from the door and bracket.

Step 3 — Reset the tension collar

View the pivot from the threaded end with the mounting bracket facing you (Figure 1). Turn the tension collar to the left (counterclockwise) until it stops. While holding the collar in place, turn the threaded spindle to the right (clockwise) until it stops.

Step 4 — Secure in a vise

Place the threaded spindle horizontally in a vise, gripping it on the ½" diameter section (Figure 2) with the mounting bracket still facing you.

Step 5 — Apply and lock spring tension

Insert a tension lever tool (or substitute — a 2"–3" finishing nail, ice pick, or any steel object that fits the adjusting hole) into the tension collar hole near the cover plate stop (A). Turn the collar toward you (counterclockwise) until spring tension is felt. Insert the tension pin fully into the hole in the tension collar near stop (A) — the pin shoulder must seat flush against the tension collar. Release the collar and allow spring tension to rotate it toward stop (A) until the pin contacts the stop.

Step 6 — Reinstall

Reinstall the pivot on the door and test closing force in both directions.
