Electromagnetic door holders are the professional solution for holding doors open in commercial buildings — and automatically releasing them when needed. Unlike magnetic or mechanical door stops, they integrate with fire alarm systems and remote switches to provide hands-free, fail-safe door control.

Primary Use

Fire door hold-open — releases automatically on alarm

Fire doors are designed to reduce the spread of fire and smoke while still allowing safe egress. The most common application for electromagnetic door holders is holding these doors open in normal conditions — then releasing them automatically in an emergency.

They work in conjunction with a fire alarm system and a door closer:

1

Under normal conditions, a low-current draw activates the electromagnet, holding the door open and allowing free passage through hallways and common areas.

2

When the fire alarm activates — or in the event of a power failure — power to the electromagnet is cut. The door closer pulls the door shut automatically.

3

The closed fire door reduces damage from flames and smoke — critical in hallways and corridors where fire spreads quickly.

Secondary Use

High-security doors — remote release and close

Electromagnetic door holders are also used on high-security doors such as private offices and restricted access areas. In these applications, the door can be closed and locked remotely — without anyone physically touching the door.

How it works

A remote switch cuts power to the electromagnetic holder → the door closer shuts the door → the lever with a storeroom function locks it automatically.

Multiple doors can be closed and locked simultaneously with a single switch — ideal for end-of-day security lockdown procedures in offices and commercial buildings.
