Single Action Door Spring Hinge Adjustment
How to install and adjust the tension of a typical Adjustable
Single Action Spring Hinge.

1. Hinge Installation:
Install Hinge in normal manner with the tension adjustment up (Tension adjuster at the top).
2. Adjusting the Spring Torque:
- A. Place the door in the closed position.
- B. Insert Tension Lever Tool in right hand hole in the adjustment slot. (see FIGURE 1)
- C. Rotate Tension Lever Tool to the left and insert Tension Pin loosely in
the right of Tension Lever Tool. (see FIGURE 2)
- D. Release Tension Lever Tool until Tension Pin contacts the right hand side of
the Adjustment Slot.
- E. Remove Tension Lever Tool and check the door for closing force. If desired closing
force is not achieved repeat steps A to E until closing force is satisfactory.
- F. When all the hinges have been adjusted to close the door properly, drive the Tension Pin flush with
the hinge tube (Hinge Barrel).
Caution Notes:
Most Adjustable Single Action Spring Hinges you should NOT
exceed three (3) holes tension for 180 degrees door opening or four (4) holes tension
for 90 degrees door opening.
Always install hinges with the tension adjustment up.

Adjusting Hex Head Type Spring Hinges:
Some spring hinges use a Hex Wrench (aka Allen Wrench).
Install Hinge in normal manner with the tension adjustment up (Tension adjuster at the top).
Adjusting the Spring Torque:
- A. Place the door in the closed position.
- B. Insert Hex wrench in the hole on top of the barrel. (see FIGURE 3)
- C. Rotate Hex wrench clockwise. Insert Tension Pin loosely in locking pin hole.
- D. Release Tension Hex wrench until Tension Locking Pin contacts the side of
the hole.
- E. Remove Hex wrench and check the door for closing force. If desired closing
force is not achieved repeat steps A to E until closing force is satisfactory.
- F. When all the hinges have been adjusted to close the door properly, drive the Tension Pin flush with
the hinge tube (Hinge Barrel).

Most single action spring hinges are packaged with the Tension Lever Adjusting Tool. If
one was not provided by the manufacture you could use a 2" - 3" long finishing nail, ice pick or
just about any steel object that will fit into the holes and allow you to rotate the hinge spring.
