Once you've identified your hinge corner radius, the next step is confirming the correct hinge size. Standard door hinges are square and sized in ½" increments. Most residential interior doors use a 3½" hinge and most entry doors use a 4" hinge.

Hinge size chart by door thickness and width

If you are replacing existing hinges, simply measure the hinge leaf — height and width should be equal. For new installations use the chart below as a guide based on door thickness and width.

1⅜" Door Up to 32" 3½" Hinge
1⅜" Door 32" to 36" 4" Hinge
1¾" Door Up to 36" 4½" Hinge
1¾" Door 36" to 48" 5" Hinge
1¾" Door Over 48" 6" Hinge
2", 2¼", 2½" Door Up to 42" 5" Heavy Duty Commercial
2", 2¼", 2½" Door Over 42" 6" Heavy Duty Commercial

Note: This chart is a guide, not an absolute standard. Always verify against your existing hardware when replacing.
